Anushka Sharma had a career as a model and auditioned for several films before appearing in the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008, where she acted alongside Shah Rukh Khan. On her 35th birthday, we revisit one of her early audition tapes for the iconic Rajkumar Hirani film 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.

Despite being brief, Anushka appears to be effortlessly natural in the audition tape, which is probably why big filmmakers such as Aditya Chopra took notice of her and cast her in movies later.

In the clip, Anushka is seen showing the video to Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir during the shooting of PK, which came out in 2014. As the actor shows her audition tape to Hirani, the director is taken by surprise. "Anushka auditioned for 3 Idiots, no, she didn't," he replies, looking flummoxed. Anushka, who was then wearing her costume from the movie PK, then appeared embarrassed, trying to hide her face.

During the audition, Anushka was asked to perform Gracy Singh's monologue from the movie Munna Bhai MBBS directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, in which Sanjay Dutt played the lead role. She had to recreate the monologue in her own way as a part of the audition process.

The video shows a younger Anushka Sharma wearing a green top while auditioning for the movie. Although she didn’t get the chance to work with Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan in that movie, she did collaborate with the duo in the 2014 superhit film PK, which was released five years later.

Anushka, since her debut in 2008, has demonstrated her impeccable acting skills in various films, including Sultan, Band Baaja Baaraat, Dil Dhadakne Do, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Sui Dhaga, and more.

In 2013, she and her brother Karnesh Sharma established their own production banner, Clean Slate Films, which has produced movies such as NH10, Pari, and Phillauri. Over the past two years, her production house has created content for OTT platforms like Paatal Lok and Bulbbul.

Although she has been missing on the big screens since her box office dud Zero, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, released in 2018, Anushka will next be seen in the cricket biopic Chakda ‘Xpress based on the former Indian national women's cricket team captain, Jhulan Goswami.

She tied the knot with cricket Virat Kohli in December 2017 and welcomed their daughter Vamika in January 2021.
