Reportedly, Ayan Mukerji has been roped in to direct Hrithik Roshan in Aditya Chopra’s next film in its widely star-studded YRF-spyverse. With War 2, the director forays into an uncharted territory where the stakes are as grand as the mega budget.
War 2 To Be Ayan Mukerji’s First Ever Action Film
If the reports are true, War 2 will be Ayan Mukerji’s first ever film outside the rom-com genre. The director has emerged as a fan-favourite over the years. Ayan Mukerji is known for giving his audiences characters, music and dialogues that stay with them for years. Be it Sid and Aisha from Wake Up Sid, Bunny and Naina from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani or Isha and Shiva from Brahmastra Part One: Shiva; the filmmaker’s unique love stories have a way to the audiences’ heart.
What Happens To Brahmastra Part 2 And 3?
Ayan Mukerji is a wise man; he is not walking away from his quintessential style, but simply taking a break to explore other opportunities. With years of his life completely immersed into the Astraverse, Ayan, like his friends Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, wants to foray into films other than Brahmastra.
While Ayan Mukerji worked on War 2, the filmmaker gave the Astraverse fans assurance beforehand about the upcoming films in the Brahmastra film franchise. The director took to his social media account and announced that while he’ll be working on a ‘special’ movie, the Brahmastra Part Two: Dev and Part Three will be releasing in 2026 and 2027 respectively.

New Genre, New Actor, New Production House: All Things New For Ayan Mukerji
Over the years, Ayan Mukerji maintained his loyalty towards best friend Ranbir Kapoor. But with War 2, the filmmaker will be working on a new genre with a new actor and a new production house altogether. This will be the first time Ayan Mukerji will be working sans Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar on a film.
In an interview during the promotions of Brahmastra, Ayan Mukerji revealed how Ranbir Kapoor shot for other films between the filming of Sanju even when the filmmaker did not want him to do so. Notably, it was just Ayan who was stuck in the Astraverse; while Ranbir, Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar simultaneously worked on other films.
Maybe this time, Ayan wants to take someone else’s vision forward, step outside the world of Brahmastra and feel the adrenaline rush.
Will War 2 Be A Game Changer For Ayan Mukerji?
Shifting all gears, Ayan Mukerji eyes War 2 to be a game changer in his career. The stakes are high with the mega budget War 2 will be set on. For instance, Pathaan was set on a huge budget of reportedly over Rs 200 crore. With Pathaan grossing over Rs 1000 crore at the worldwide box-office, the budget and expectations from War 2 will increase manifold.
If Ayan Mukerji manages to succeed, the filmmaker will not only be breaking away from his poster boy of new age romantic films to a mainstream action director. If not, the world of Brahmastra waits for its sorcerer with open arms.
