About Bastar: The Naxal Story
'Bastar: The Naxal Story,' featuring the talented Adah Sharma, promises to offer a compelling exploration of history and contemporary issues. Sudipto Sen's upcoming film reportedly delves into the historical events of the 1910 Bastar rebellion, also known as the Bhumkal movement. This uprising, led by tribal leader Gunda Dhur and Diwan Lal Karendra Singh, saw Adivasis revolt against British rule in the princely state of Bastar, located in central India. Characterised by widespread rioting and arson, the rebellion was driven by grievances stemming from British forest policies that displaced tribal communities. Despite being suppressed with additional troops, these policies persisted post-independence, contributing to ongoing conflicts such as the Naxalite insurgency in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division.
The movie features an impressive ensemble cast, comprising Adah Sharma, Indira Tiwari, Vijay Krishna, Shilpa Shukla, Yashpal Sharma, Subrat Dutta, and Raima Sen.
