BLACKPINK’s Jennie has once again captured the attention of fans and netizens with her latest TikTok video, which has left many hilariously confused. The new video posted on her TikTok account on July 3 (KST) showcases Jennie’s playful side, contrasting sharply with the powerful and badass vibes of her lyrics.

Back in June, Jennie collaborated with Beats by Dre for an advertisement that featured a snippet of her new song. The lyrics were interpreted by many as a subtle diss towards her former agency, YG Entertainment. The lines from the song are:

'Taken for granted, taken as hostage
Carried the baggage, carried the past us
As luck would have it, future was written
They didn’t plan for women to woman up
Yeah
They didn’t plan it, but we came out history like, “Fuck it, yeah”
They didn’t want it, but we came out history, like justice.'

These powerful lyrics, highlighting themes of overcoming obstacles and rising above challenges, sparked a lot of discussion among fans. Many believed Jennie was addressing her frustrations with YG Entertainment and celebrating her newfound independence and success.

The new TikTok video starts with Jennie dressed in a stylish outfit, matching the fierce energy of her song’s lyrics. However, the video takes a humorous turn when a portable fan blows her hair dramatically, mimicking a typical music video scene. From that point on, the video becomes increasingly unserious, with Jennie riding a bike (or at least pretending to), playing with unicorns, getting sprayed with water and having fun with a hose, all while maintaining her signature sass.

This unexpected shift from serious to playful left netizens in stitches, as they expressed their confusion and amusement over the video’s direction. Jennie’s ability to blend humour with her music has endeared her even more to fans, who appreciate her versatility and charisma.

Earlier last year, in December 2023, Jennie announced the launch of her own company, ODD ATELIER. This move came after months of speculation about the future of BLACKPINK, as none of the members chose to renew their contracts with YG Entertainment for solo activities. Jennie’s decision to branch out on her own has been met with excitement from fans, who are eager to see what she will achieve with her newfound creative freedom.

Jennie’s solo career has been on a rapid rise since the announcement. Fans have criticized YG Entertainment for allegedly holding her back, a sentiment seemingly validated by Jennie’s own revelations about her unreleased work. Her recent activities, including the Beats by Dre campaign and the new song teaser, have only increased anticipation for her future projects.

On June 19, Jennie launched her solo TikTok account, posting a video set to her hit song Solo. The following day, she shared another video for her campaign with Beats by Dre, where she first teased the lyrics of her new song. The TikTok clip featured close-ups of Jennie with the earbuds, with the song title displayed as UNTITLED — Jennie, linking back to her profile.
