BTS continues to make waves globally as they were honoured during the American Music Awards (AMA) 50th-anniversary special event. The group, known for revolutionizing Kpop and setting new benchmarks in the music industry, was recognized alongside legendary boy bands like One Direction, NSYNC, and the Backstreet Boys in a tribute to boy bands that have made a significant impact on the music scene.

The AMAs 50th-anniversary celebration took place on October 6, 2024, and featured a special segment dedicated to the most iconic boy bands from different eras. BTS, often regarded as the biggest boy band in the world today, was rightfully acknowledged for their massive global influence. This honour not highlighted only the group's contribution to the Kpop industry but also their role in reshaping the global music landscape.

BTS, consisting of members RM, Jin, Suga, Jhope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, made their debut in 2013. Over the years, the group has soared to unprecedented levels of popularity, with hit songs such as Blood, Sweat & Tears, Dynamite, Butter, Black Swan and ON. They have won numerous awards worldwide and were the first Kpop group to be nominated for a Grammy.

While fourth-generation Kpop group Stray Kids performed during the AMA special event, BTS received recognition for their enduring influence on global pop culture. The tribute segment emphasized how BTS has transcended language barriers and geographic boundaries, becoming a cultural phenomenon that resonates with millions of fans around the world, known as ARMY.

The recognition at the AMAs not only acknowledges their musical achievements but also solidifies BTS’ position as a cultural powerhouse. They have continuously pushed the boundaries of what it means to be a global artist, and their inclusion in this prestigious event alongside other boy band legends is a testament to their influence.

Currently, six out of seven members of BTS—RM, Suga, Jhope, Jimin, V and Jungkook—are serving in South Korea’s mandatory military service, while Jin, the eldest, has already enlisted. Despite their hiatus as a group, BTS continues to make headlines, with their music, solo projects, and constant connection to fans through social media and various platforms.

In July 2024, BTS celebrated their 11th debut anniversary with a two-week-long event called FESTA, where the members came together to reflect on their journey and thank their loyal fans for their continued support. Jin, who has been serving in the military, even held a special event to connect with ARMY during the celebration. BTS is expected to reunite as a full group after their military service, with most members set to be discharged around 2025.
