BTS has become the latest addition to US-based TidalWave Comics' acclaimed FAME series, joining the ranks of global musical icons like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. The 22-page graphic novel, set to be released in both print and digital formats on January 10, delves into the extraordinary journey of the seven-member boy band from Seoul, South Korea. The comic, known for its vibrant illustrations and captivating storytelling, goes beyond merely recounting BTS's rise to fame and chart-topping hits. It uniquely explores the unexpected transition of the group from pop idols to soldiers, offering readers a fresh perspective on their remarkable story and future possibilities.

Since their debut in 2013 under the small agency BigHit, BTS has emerged as a worldwide sensation, bringing the Hallyu wave to global music lovers. From UNESCO to UNICEF, the group has left an indelible mark with their catchy songs and positive messages, winning hearts around the world.

The storyline unfolds the incredible narrative of how BTS, comprised of members Jin, Jimin, Jhope, RM, V, Jungkook, and Suga, navigated the challenging path to global stardom. The comic pays homage to their social campaigns aimed at empowering youth, showcasing the impact of their music beyond entertainment.

A new comic book chronicles the rise to stardom of South Korea’s K-pop music sensation BTS and their recent transition to military service. The book will be released in both print and digital formats and soft and hardcovers on January 10.

However, the comic takes an unexpected turn as it documents the group's decision to fulfil their national obligation by enlisting in the South Korean military. This move, mandated for all able-bodied men aged between 18 and 28, stirred public discussion, with some lawmakers even advocating for exemptions for BTS. In December 2022, the eldest member, Jin, led the way by joining the military, with the rest of the members following suit in subsequent months of 2023.

Fans, affectionately known as the BTS Army, have expressed unwavering support for their idols during this hiatus. The group's planned reunion in 2025, after all members complete their military service, has become a beacon of anticipation for fans worldwide. The first member set to return is Jin in June 2024, followed by Jhope, Suga, and the others in chronological order.

Fans also expressed their mixed opinions about the comic book. According to Koreaboo, K-netizens are praising the initiative while others are complaining about the portrayal of the members while referring to its designs. A netizen wrote, “They don’t look alike at all. It’s being released by a U.S. company..it’s cool that they added the story to enlistment…BTS is really famous…but they really didn’t do justice on the drawings.” While another netizen wrote, “I kinda want to read it though? Lol.”

TidalWave Comics' decision to feature BTS in the FAME series underscores the global impact of Kpop and the raging influence of BTS on the music industry. The graphic novel promises to be an engaging and insightful read, shedding light on the multifaceted journey of these musical trailblazers.
