BTS' RM Reacts To 'Bad Religion' Controversy: BTS frontman RM, who also goes by Kim Namjoon, is famous for sharing music from various artists on his Instagram stories. On August 16, RM shared the controversial song 'Bad Religion' by Frank Ocean. This song has consistently remained controversial since its release, with the lyrics raising concerns within the Muslim community due to their perceived Islamophobic nature.

Although "Bad Religion" is purportedly a song about love, some lines from the chorus have sparked controversy. For instance, a portion of the lyrics goes, "And you say ‘Allahu Akbar’ / I told him, 'Don't curse me’ / ‘Bo Bo, you need prayer’/ I guess it couldn’t hurt me /If it brings me to my knees, it’s a bad religion."

Amid various interpretations of the lyrics, a significant number of social media users expressed their displeasure with RM sharing the song, raising questions about whether he intended to offend sentiments by doing so.

Now, during a recent Weverse Live, RM, reacting to the backlash he received for sharing the song, said, "Okay, guys, I don’t know what you’re talking about. You just keep telling me that I insulted your religion. But I didn’t. There was no intention to insult a religion I respect. I know what’s going on, on Instagram. But there was no such purpose or intention to hurt a religion, okay? It’s a song, okay? I am not apologising. I am just saying. I am 30 years old. I can express my truth out. Please believe my words from myself. I am just not pretending or assuming."

"I just can't…I just can't lie to you. I'm just being honest. I'm fine. There are no problems. But I heard there are some problems…the noise is all around. So, I just had to say about that because some people would keep just keep checking me about that. Please believe me," he added.

"Allahu Akbar" is a common Arabic expression in Islam, translating to "God is greatest." Despite discussions surrounding the phrase, Frank Ocean seems to have provided his own interpretation of 'bad religion' through the culmination of the song, stating, "It’s a, it’s a bad religion/To be in love with someone/ Who could never love you/Oh, oh, oh, only bad, only bad religion/Could have me feeling the way I do."

Interpreting the lyrics, it appears that Frank Ocean is drawing a comparison between unrequited love and 'bad religion,' but this viewpoint has led to divided opinions among some fans.

The lyrics have been subject to various interpretations, and a number of people on social media expressed displeasure at RM for sharing the song, raising questions about whether he intended to offend sentiments.
