BTS SUGA has faced legal action for his involvement in a DUI case, concluding a month-long investigation. According to reports, the South Korean rapper has been fined under the Road Traffic Act without a formal trial. This process, known as a summary indictment, allows penalties to be imposed based on written documents without court proceedings.
The news was first reported by Yonhap News on September 10, 2024. SUGA's case was handled by the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office, Criminal Division 2, led by Chief Prosecutor Chu Hye Yoon. Although the exact amount of the fine has not been disclosed, it was confirmed that the charge stemmed from SUGA riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place on the night of August 6, when SUGA was returning home in Hannam-dong on an electric scooter. After taking a sharp turn, he fell near his residence. A nearby police officer who came to his aid noticed the smell of alcohol, which led to a breathalyzer test. SUGA was then taken to the police station for further questioning before being escorted back home.

[Important] The Seoul Prosecutor's Office says that Yoongi has been indicted for violating the road traffic act on an *electric scooter*, and his punishment is *only* a fine. He won't be called for a court trial, and the case will be closed very soon. Fine amount is not public.

At the time of the incident, it was reported that SUGA's blood alcohol content was 0.227%, well above the legal limit of 0.08% in South Korea. However, the police never officially confirmed this number. Under South Korean law, a blood alcohol content higher than 0.02% can lead to significant fines, potentially ranging from 10 to 20 million KRW.

SUGA's legal troubles began to unfold publicly when he appeared at Yongsan Police Station on August 23 for further questioning. Before entering the station, he made a public apology, bowing twice. By August 30, his case had been forwarded to prosecutors, and now, with the news of his summary indictment, it appears the case has reached its conclusion.
Fans have reacted with a mix of concern and support, while the Kpop idol has yet to make a public statement following the latest developments.
