BTS Suga is reportedly facing a criminal investigation after being caught riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred earlier this week, and according to reports from Koreaboo and Dispatch, Suga's actions have now escalated to a serious legal matter.
Suga, who is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, was allegedly caught by the authorities while riding an electric scooter after drinking. The incident led to his brief detention at the Yongsan Police Station. What initially appeared to be a minor infraction has now turned into a more significant legal issue due to the nature of the vehicle Suga was operating.
An official from the Yongsan Police Station stated that the electric scooter Suga was riding is not classified as a "personal mobility device." This classification is crucial because it determines the severity of the offence. Unlike personal mobility devices, which are subject to administrative penalties, the scooter Suga was riding is categorized as a motorized bicycle. This classification subjects him to criminal punishment similar to that for driving a car under the influence of alcohol.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, an exclusive report from Donga Ilbo revealed that Suga's blood alcohol content was measured at 0.227%—a staggering eight times the legal limit in South Korea. This level of intoxication could result in a prison sentence of 2-5 years or a fine ranging between KRW 10.0 million (approximately USD 7,290) and KRW 20.0 million (approximately USD 14,600). Initially, Suga had testified that he only consumed one glass of beer, making this revelation all the more alarming.
The news of Suga's high blood alcohol level has sparked widespread disappointment and anger among netizens. Many fans and the public expressed their frustration on social media, with some even calling for the idol to leave BTS due to his misleading testimony about only having one drink. This backlash reflects the gravity of the situation and the public's concern over the idol's actions.
Tbh, i dont like the fandom, i like some bts song esp micdrop n fakelove, but i love suga. It's kinda disappointing to see this, but human is prone to make mistake, n we all hv our own mistakes. I wish he wont repeat the same mistake. Bullying him is wrong, just stop already. https://t.co/Vrj01AOqaK

In light of the incident, Suga issued a public apology to his fans through the social media platform Weverse. In his statement, he expressed deep regret for his actions and explained that he was unaware it was illegal to ride an electric scooter after consuming alcohol. He shared, “I am deeply sorry to have to come to you with disappointing news. I rode an electric scooter home after drinking at dinner last night. I thought it was a short distance and didn’t realize that you can’t ride an electric scooter while intoxicated, so I violated the road traffic laws.”
Big Hit Music, the agency representing BTS, also issued an apology on behalf of Suga. The agency clarified that the rapper travelled a very short distance and was unaware of the legal implications of his actions.
