Cannes 2025: The focus is squarely on India's increasing prominence at the world's most renowned film festival when the 78th Cannes Film Festival begins on May 13. With highly regarded films and glitzy red carpet appearances, this year represents a pivotal time in India's Cannes history.
Indian Movies At Cannes 2025
Homebound: Homebound, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, will be shown at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Vishal Jethwa also appears in Neeraj Ghaywan's second feature film, which is financed by Karan Johar. Renowned Hollywood director Martin Scorsese joined the project as an executive producer as well. The movie has been chosen for the section on Uncertain Regard.

Aranyer Din Ratri: The recently restored Aranyer Din Ratri by Satyajit Ray will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025, according to an official social media statement from the Film Heritage Foundation. Sharmila Tagore, a seasoned Bollywood actress who played the lead in the 1970 movie, will be present at the occasion.

A Doll Made Up Of Clay: Students from the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata made the film A Doll Made Up Of Clay, which will be shown at the 78th Festival De Cannes 2025. The short film has been chosen for the esteemed La Cinef segment. Kokob Gebrehweria Tesfay, an Ethiopian student at SRFTI, wrote and directed the film, which is set in India. Sahil Manoj Ingle is the producer. The film's executive producer is Uma Kumari.

India At Cannes 2025
In a significant brand alignment, Alia Bhatt will make her Cannes debut as a worldwide spokesperson for L'Oréal Paris. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a frequent attendee to Cannes, will carry on her custom of showing up on the red carpet.
Renowned Indian director Payal Kapadia, whose movie All We Imagine As Light took home the Cannes 2024 Grand Prix, is back this year as a member of the Main Competition Jury. International celebrities including Jeremy Strong, Halle Berry and Juliette Binoche join her on the panel.
