The movie’s trailer which was released on Thursday received immense praise from fans and critics alike. However, a controversy has erupted surrounding a scene from an upcoming film, with the Maratha organisation Sambhaji Brigade expressing strong objections to a dance sequence featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna. The duo portrays the historic figures Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai, respectively, in the movie and the brigade has taken issue with the depiction of these iconic characters in the dance sequence.

According to a report in India TV, the Sambhaji Brigade has demanded the removal of a contentious scene from the upcoming film, citing that it insults the revered historical figure of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. While the organisation has expressed its appreciation for the fact that a Hindi film has been made on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, they have taken umbrage with a specific dance sequence featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, who portray the roles of Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai, respectively.

About the movie: Chhaava, an upcoming Indian Hindi-language historical action film, is set to bring the legendary life of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to the big screen. The movie, which translates to Lion Cub, will see Vicky Kaushal essaying the titular role of Sambhaji Maharaj. Interestingly, Chhaava is an adaptation of the acclaimed Marathi novel Chhaava penned by Shivaji Sawant, which provides a rich and detailed account of the king's life.

Helmed by renowned director Laxman Utekar, Chhaava is produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in pivotal roles. The production team embarked on an extensive pre-production phase in April 2023, meticulously preparing for the filming process. Principal photography commenced in October 2023 and wrapped up in May 2024.

The music composition for Chhaava is entrusted to the legendary A. R. Rahman, who is known for his iconic and soul-stirring soundtracks. The lyrics for the film's songs have been penned by the talented Irshad Kamil. With its release slated for February 14, 2025, Chhaava is poised to captivate the audience with its epic portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj's life, set against the backdrop of India's rich history and cultural heritage.
