Devara: Plot

Set in a coastal region during the post-independence era, the film follows the son of a village chief who secretly aims to fulfill his father’s dying wish to eliminate smuggling. He feigns weakness and creates the illusion that his father is still alive.

In 1996, a high-level security meeting addresses threats to the Cricket World Cup in India posed by the notorious Daya and his brother, Yethi. After capturing one of Yethi's henchmen, the police trace him to Muruga, a politician and smuggler. Upon discovering Muruga's death, they go undercover as smugglers and approach Bhaira, a village chief, who violently rebuffs them. They then meet Singappa, who takes them offshore to reveal skeletons submerged in the seabed and shares a tale of warriors who became smugglers post-independence.

Devara, a chieftain, vows to put an end to smuggling operations, inciting the anger of other chieftains, including Bhaira. As time passes, his son, Vara, feels abandoned by Devara. When Bhaira schemes against Devara, Vara reluctantly aligns with him to protect their village. Ultimately, Singappa reveals to Devara's wife that Vara has been impersonating his father, taking down smugglers while perpetuating the belief that Devara is still alive.
