About Devara
Set in a coastal region during the post-independence era, the film follows the son of a village chief who is determined to fulfill his father's dying wish: to eradicate smuggling in their area. To achieve this goal, he pretends to be weak and fabricates a story that his father is still alive. In 1996, a critical security meeting is held to discuss threats to the Cricket World Cup in India posed by the infamous Daya and his brother, Yethi. After the police capture one of Yethi's henchmen, they trace him back to Muruga, a corrupt politician and smuggler. Upon discovering Muruga is dead, the police go undercover as smugglers themselves and seek out Bhaira, a village chief, who responds with violent hostility.
Their investigation leads them to Singappa, who takes them out to sea to reveal skeletons submerged in the depths. He shares a haunting tale of warriors who, disillusioned after independence, turned to smuggling, intertwining their fate with the turbulent history of the region.
