Panchayat actor Pankaj Jha has been making headlines again for his controversial remark. This time, he indirectly targeted renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and stated that many timid and spineless people broke their promises to him. For the unversed, Pankaj Jha was the initial choice for the role of Sultan Qureshi in Anurag Kashyap’s directorial Gangs of Wasseypur. However, the character was later played by Pankaj Tripathi and received huge recognition from audience and critics. Jha said in an interview that he got the offer during his shoot in Patna and conveyed to Kashyap that he would return in two days. By the time he reached, Anurag had already cast Tripathi for the role.
During a conversation with Digital Commentary, the anchor asked the actor if filmy politics hurt him. The Panchayat actor replied that he was never bothered about politics happening behind his back as he doesn’t want the ‘backstabbers’ to win. Jha was also asked if he would play the role of Sultan then it would have changed his career like Pankaj Tripathi. He said that he does not want to look back and is perfectly content with whatever happened.
Pankaj also said, “While films like Satya and Gulaal create actors, they also make directors. But there are so many timid and spineless people here that they can’t even keep their word. Nevertheless, I still love Anurag very much and have no complaints against anyone.”
Pankaj Jha and Anurag Kashyap earlier worked together in movies like Gulaal (2009) and Black Friday (2007). Notably, Pankaj is known for his roles in Once Upon a Time in Bihar, Blackboard vs Whiteboard, Monsoon Wedding, Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women, and Mangal Pandey: The Rising to name a few. He was last seen in Panchayat season 3. Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, it featured Neena Gupta, Faisal Malik, Raghubir Yadav, Chandan Roy, Sunita Rajwar, Durgesh Kumar and Sanvikaa in key roles. The web series was released on Prime Video.
