Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, is all set to hit the theatres on December 1, 2023. The movie also stars Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. The movie has been directed by filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga who faced strong criticism for his 2019 hit 'Kabir Singh'. Vanga has now broken silence over the same by indirectly taking a jibe at industry people who criricised Shahid Kapoor-starrer on social media.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga Takes An Indirect Jibe At Karan Johar
In a conversation with The Hindu, Sandeep Reddy Vanga said, “It depends on how you look at a story and its characters. I did not face much criticism for Arjun Reddy, but it was different for Kabir Singh. I don’t want to name anyone but I saw a few people debating about Kabir Singh to get publicity before the release of their own films.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga indirectly took a jibe at Karan Johar, referring to the latter's previous statement, “A leading producer-director said he was scared to admit liking Kabir Singh. People acted as though I had made a film on the lines of the French film Irreversible. That film left me disturbed for days, though I could also see the artistic side of it.”
For the unversed, Karan Johar said on a roundtable with Film Companion, “I didn’t notice that there could be aspects that could be misogynistic and that would definitely offend viewers. When there were debates around me, I went back and thought, initially there was a point of time that I was embarrased to say that I really loved the film because there were people with such strong voices around me screaming. So I thought I’ll stay silent but I don’t want to lie. I really liked the film.”
When women close to Karan expressed their viewpoints against the film, Karan acknowledged that he hadn't considered the film from that particular perspective. He emphasised his commitment to authenticity, refraining from insincerely stating the 'right' things. Karan openly acknowledged that his personal sentiments towards the film may be subject to interpretation, asserting that he cannot deny his genuine fondness for it.
