AR Rahman, who sang Luka Chuppi, Maa Tujhe Salaam and many more is extremely famous, but this wasn't always the case. During his early years, the legendary singer lost his father. Following this, he quit his studies and began working at an early age because he was forced to take on the responsibilities of his house.

In 1967, AS Dileep Kumar, also known as Allah Rakha Rahman or AR Rahman was born in Madras, Tamil Nadu. His father, RK Shekhar was a music composer for Tamil and Malayalam movies. AR Rahman was always interested in music, therefore at the age of four, he began taking piano lessons and helping his father in the studio.

When AR Rahman Converted To Islam

AR Rahman, who had studied in Madras and earned a diploma in Western classical music, was introduced to qadiri tariqa when his younger sister was severely ill in 1984. He changed his name S Dileep Kumar to Allah Rakha and joined his family in converting to Islam when he was 23 years old.

AR Rahman's Hardships And Struggles

The seasoned composer of music was just nine years old when he lost his father. AR Rahman was devastated by his father's sudden death from an unidentified illness, and his family also experienced financial hardship. Due to financial constraints, AR Rahman dropped out of school early and assumed responsibility for the home.

AR Rahman used to play the piano professionally to help pay for expenses at home. He enrolled in college a few years after finishing school, but he left to focus on his musical career. He started his band after leaving college and went on to write jingles for numerous commercials. Media reports claim that AR Rahman composed the jingles for over 300 commercials.

His work began to gain prominence over time, and the Tamil movie 'Roja' gave him his first break in the industry. The crowd enjoyed his songs in this movie.

AR Rahman's career took off after he began writing songs for motion pictures.
