Emraan Hashmi who gained prominence for his roles in films known as 'Murder' and 'Gangster,' among others, recently revealed his early challenges and his grandmother Purnima Das Verma's initial apprehension about his acting aspirations. Purnima, a veteran actress known for her roles in black-and-white cinema, initially hoped for a different career path for her grandson. Also, Emraan faced challenges entering the acting industry.

Reflecting on his grandmother's concerns, he shared that she advised him to consider alternative careers, fearing he didn’t possess the conventional looks or talents often associated with film stars. However, Emraan's fortunes changed when his uncle, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, recognised his potential. According to the actor, Mahesh's belief in his acting abilities reassured his grandmother that he could succeed in the industry. Mahesh Bhatt said, "I believe he can be an actor, I will launch him."

Emraan Hashmi started his journey by assisting Mahesh Bhatt during the making of 'Raaz' before landing his debut role in 'Footpath.' Reflecting on his entry into films, Emraan mentioned that Mahesh's production company was restructuring and seeking new talent, leading to his opportunity. Over this, Emraan recalled, "Before our first film together, Mahesh Bhatt made it clear. He said, 'We are not running a charity. If you can’t act and if the audience rejects you, I won’t hesitate to replace you.'"
