Brad Pitt-starrer F1 is getting a sequel. This has been confirmed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer. In an interview with BBC, he said, "We’re working on a sequel." However, Bruckheimer did not reveal any further details about the cast or the project’s timeline. He also avoided confirming whether Brad Pitt would reprise his role, only mentioning that he would be closely involved in the casting decisions.
Speculation about an F1 sequel had been doing the rounds for quite some time, but no official word had come out until now. With this announcement, the long-standing rumours have finally been laid to rest. Interestingly, during Apple TV’s Press Day last week, a fan had raised a question about a possible sequel. Apple senior executive Eddie Cue read out the query, and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali responded with a brief 'stay tuned', subtly hinting at the big reveal.
In a previous interview, F1 director Joseph Kosinski had shared that he originally pitched Ford v Ferrari with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in the lead roles. However, the project did not move forward at the time due to budget constraints faced by the makers. The film was later helmed by James Mangold, with Christian Bale and Matt Damon stepping into the lead roles, eventually bringing the much-acclaimed project to life.
In an interview with The National, Pitt revealed, "Tom and I, for a while there, were on Ford Vs Ferrari with Joe [to direct]. This was about 10 years before the guys who actually made it - and made it a great movie."
He further added, "What it came down to is that we both wanted to drive, and [Tom] wanted to play Shelby, and I wanted to play Ken Miles. And when Tom realised that Carroll Shelby would not be driving much in the movie, it didn't come through. So I'm not sure how that's going to work [in a potential F1 sequel], but we'll give it a go. I'd love to."
