Fahadh Faasil’s Fans Celebrating His Maamannan Character Is Worrying; Here’s Why

'Maamannan' directed by Mari Selvaraj witnessed its digital premiere on Netflix on July 27 and has been trending at number 1 since then. Despite receiving mixed reviews at the box office, the film minted positive box office numbers and talked about the subjects of oppression and casteism.

The political drama features Udhayanidhi Stalin, Vadivelu, and Fahadh Faasil in lead roles, with Fahadh Faasil's character receiving immense praise on social media making the actor trending on Twitter.

Fans of Fahadh Faasil have been creating video edits for his character, Rathnavelu which is a problematic matter. In the film, Fahadh Faasil's character essays a negative role of a casteist politician who upholds the pride of his family and says he does not care about his caste but wants to maintain the legacy left by his father and under his guidance and wants to give the same to his son.

Known for breathing life into his characters, Fahadh Faasil did an extraordinary job and gave a superlative performance, flooding Twitter with his clips from the film. However, a large section on social media is against this as his character in the film is not a hero but is an oppressor and a casteist.

He holds a strong position in a political party that calls out for equality but is a facade. In the film, he does not let the local MLA Maamannan win, because he belongs to a lower caste. However, Maamannan's son manages to beat Fahadh Faasil's character in the film, making him gain his political power.

The character portrayed by Fahadh Faasil is brutal, as he takes his anger out on human beings and animals. When his dog was not able to win the race, without a thought he killed the innocent soul and in the film can be seen committing heinous crimes.

The director of the film Mari Selvaraj was also shocked to witness the trending of his character on Twitter which advocates against social injustice and casteism.
