Kiki Hakansson, who made history as the first Miss World in 1951, has passed away at the age of 95. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in California on Monday, November 4, as confirmed by her family. According to the official Miss World Instagram page, Kiki was "peaceful, comfortable and well cared for" in her final moments.

Hakansson, originally from Sweden, became a symbol of elegance and grace when she won the very first Miss World title. The event, held at the Lyceum Ballroom in London on July 29, 1951, was initially organized as part of the Festival of Britain. Although meant to be a one-time event, the competition quickly grew into a global phenomenon. Kiki’s historic win marked the beginning of the Miss World pageant, which has since become an iconic platform celebrating beauty and talent from around the world.

The official Miss World account paid tribute to Hakansson with a heartfelt post, expressing "deepest condolences" to her family. "We send our love and prayers at this difficult time," the statement read, honoring Kiki's pioneering role in the pageant’s history.

Kiki’s son, Chris Anderson, shared a personal tribute, describing his mother as "genuine, kind and loving." He reflected on her warmth and generosity, qualities that made her beloved by those who knew her. Julia Morley, president of Miss World, also shared her thoughts, stating, "Kiki was a true lead and it’s fitting that she holds a place in history as the first Miss World." Morley added that Kiki’s memory would be celebrated for eternity, as she will always remain in the hearts of those at Miss World. Hakansson's passing symbolizes the end of an era, yet her legacy as the first Miss World will inspire future generations.
