Bollywood star Ameesha Patel appeared before the Ranchi Civil Court on Saturday in relation to a case involving a bounced cheque.
Ameesha Patel was granted bail by Senior Division Judge DN Shukla, who instructed her to appear in person before the court once again on June 21.
The origins of the case can be traced back to 2018 when film producer Ajay Kumar Singh, hailing from Jharkhand, filed charges of fraud and cheque bounce against the actress.

"Earlier, the court had issued her summons many times in the case but she did not appear. Later, the court issued a warrant against her," said the complainant's advocate Vijaya Lakshmi Srivastava.
As per the complaint, Ajay Kumar Singh had transferred a sum of Rs 2.5 crore to the actor's bank account for producing a film called ‘Desi Magic’. However, Patel did not continue with the project, and subsequently issued a cheque of Rs 2.50 crore which bounced.

Patel, who was born in Mumbai, is said to have finished her schooling at Cathedral and John Cannon High School in Bombay. She earned an economics degree from Tufts University in Massachusetts, US. Reportedly, Patel had a passion for arts from a young age and had not planned to pursue acting as a profession.
However, actor-director Rakesh Roshan later persuaded her to consider acting by offering her a role in his film, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. Patel's overnight fame came with the massive success of her debut film, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai.
Although Ameesha is not frequently seen in movies nowadays, she still has an enormous fan following throughout the country. She received immense praise from her fans for her roles in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. After a short absence from the film industry, she made her television debut through Bigg Boss 13, where she was cast as the 'Malkin of the house' by the show's creators.
Next, Ameesha will feature in Gadar 2 alongside Sunny Deol.
