Grammys 2024: The 2024 Grammys became a big night for India as legends Zakhir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan bagged awards. Their fusion band 'Shakti' won the Grammy awards in the Best Global Music Album category for their album 'This Moment'. The album was released on June 30, 2023, and features eight songs created by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

In his acceptance speech, Shankar Mahadevan said, "Thank you boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”

Grammy winner Ricky Kej expressed his joy on India's big win and wrote on X, "Wowwww. This is truly India's year at the Grammys!!! Rakesh Chaurasia, Shankar Mahadevan, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram and Ustad Zakhir Hussain. India is truly shining!! Thrilled!!!! 6 Indians win in a single year. Corrections. 5 Indians have won 6 grammys so far. The night is still young!! (sic)."

He added, "And Ustad Zakhir Hussain, the living legend creates history by winning 3 Grammys in one night!!! Rakesh Chaurasia wins 2!! This is a great year for India at the Grammys and I am blessed to witness it. SHAKTI wins a #GRAMMYs #GRAMMYs2024 !!! Through this album 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!!!!"

Zakir Hussain also bagged the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for ‘Pashto’ alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia - a virtuoso flute player.
