Harry Potter fans have long cherished the tradition of gathering at King’s Cross Station in London every September 1st to commemorate the day their beloved wizard set off for Hogwarts. This year, however, the annual celebration left many disappointed as the much-anticipated announcement of the fictional Hogwarts Express departure was conspicuously absent.
For years, devoted fans have assembled at the iconic station, donning their wizarding robes, clutching wands and lugging suitcases reminiscent of the magical journey to Hogwarts. Traditionally, at 11 a.m., an announcement echoes through the station, heralding the departure of the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9 ¾, accompanied by a video of the magical train arriving on a big screen. This ritual has become a significant event for fans of the Harry Potter series, adding a touch of magic to the real world.
This year, however, the excitement turned to disappointment when the clock struck 11 a.m. and instead of the familiar announcement, fans were met with a regular public address. The lack of the expected Hogwarts Express announcement led to a chorus of boos from the crowd, as their hopes of reliving a piece of the wizarding world were dashed.

Social media quickly buzzed with reactions. A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) captured the moment, with fans expressing their dismay. “Seems like the magic took a day off. Big letdown for Harry Potter fans,” commented one user. Others, however, took a more critical stance. “Grown adults disappointed that an actual train station didn’t announce a fake train leaving a fake platform for a fake destination,” one user quipped. Another added, “Harry, the last movie was released in 2011, get a fricking life.”
The 19th century was the Age of Rail, and new stations were being built all the time to accommodate the ever-growing passenger numbers.

Despite the disappointment, some fans noted that prior notice had been given about the change. According to several X users, authorities had informed the public a week in advance that there would be no Hogwarts Express announcement this year. The official Harry Potter website, Wizarding World, also posted an important notice back in July, advising fans not to gather at King’s Cross Station on September 1st, as no event or countdown would be held.
