Netflix's web series 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' has got involved in a controversy after being accused of hurting the nation's sentiments over the depiction of hijackers. For the unversed, the series is based on the true gripping story of India's longest hijacking that took place in 1999. Netflix India's content head Monika Shergill was reportedly summoned by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to discuss the issue.

According to India Today, Netflix has assured the government that its future content will be sensitive to the nation's sentiments. Government sources said, "Netflix has provided an assurance to conduct a content review and guarantee that all future content on their platform will be sensitive to and in accordance with the nation's sentiments as well as children's sensitivity."

The government earlier said that the matter is being taken "very seriously" adding that no one has the right to play with the sentiments of the people of the country. "Nobody has the right to play with the sentiments of the people of this nation. India's culture and civilization should always be respected. You should think before portraying something in a wrong manner. The government is taking it very seriously" said Government sources on why the Netflix content head was summoned.

'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' is based on the true event that happened on December 24, 1999, while flying from Kathmandu to Delhi, and was diverted to Kandahar, Afghanistan, after multiple stops. Indian Airlines Flight 814 was hijacked by 5 masked men and was forced to land in Kandahar, Afghanistan, which was under Taliban control.

The series stars Vijay Varma, Arvind Swami, Dia Mirza, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa in prominent roles. Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Anupam Tripathi, Kanwaljeet Singh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Sushant Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Rajeev Thakur and Yashpal Sharma will be seen in pivotal roles.
