Park Sung-hoon, best known for his role in the popular Kdrama Queen of Tears, recently spoke candidly about his life, dispelling rumours about his background and reflecting on his challenging upbringing.

The actor, who gained prominence through his role in Kdramas like The Glory and Queen of Tears, appeared on episode 242 of tvN's You Quiz on the Block, which aired on May 1st. During the show, Park Sung-hoon shared insights into his academic achievements, revealing that he graduated from Gwacheon Foreign Language High School, where he excelled in language subjects such as Korean and English.

Despite his academic success, Park Sung-hoon faced scepticism from his parents when he expressed his desire to pursue acting. He recounted, "They really doubted my decision... I was an introverted kid... Before enlisting, I still slept with the lights on because I was afraid of ghosts." However, despite their initial doubts, his parents eventually supported his decision to pursue his passion for acting.

Reflecting on his father's reaction to his career choice, Park Sung-hoon shared a poignant moment, recalling his father's wish for him to focus on one thing. He remembered his father's words every time he faced challenges in his acting career.

Addressing rumours about his background, particularly speculation about coming from a chaebol family, Park Sung-hoon dismissed such claims, revealing the financial struggles his family endured during his high school years. He shared how he lived in a semi-basement room, reminiscent of the setting depicted in the movie Parasite, for seven years. He said, "The chaebol theory is really nonsense. When I was in high school, (my family) became extremely poor, and when my friends were buying hamburgers, I would squat on the stairs alone and wait for them (because I had no money)." He further added, "I lived in the semi-basement room shown in the movie ‘Parasite’ for about 7 years. When I got my first vacation after enlisting, I called my mother and said, ‘I’m going on vacation.’ My mother said, ‘Can’t you just not come out?’ “The situation was so bad."
