Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2: Karan Johar directorial Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which explored themes of family, love and separation, quickly achieved the status of a cult upon its release in 2001. It will be turning 24 years later this year. With memorable performances by Shah Rukh Khan as charming Rahul Raichand, Amitabh Bachchan as strong patriarch Yashvardhan, Kajol as full-of-life character Anjali, and Kareena Kapoor as iconic Pooja, the cast and narrative struck a chord with audiences. Viewers are eagerly waiting for its second instalment. Amid this, Karan shared a major update about the possibility of K3G's sequel.
During his interactive session on Instagram with his followers, Karan Johar reacted to the demand for a Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham sequel. Responding to one of the questions about the film's part 2, the filmmaker revealed, “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 is not happening. We should leave it alone now.”
Earlier, talking about spin-offs of her iconic character Poo, Kareena Kapoor revealed in an interview with News18, "Never. As you said, Poo was truly an iconic character. Some characters need to remain untouched and loved for what they were. I don’t think it can be touched, I don’t think it should be, and nobody can play Poo."
Released in 2001, this family drama is a star-studded movie starring Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji, who made a special appearance. Over the years, the film has remained a fan favourite with its catchy dialogues, unforgettable performances, and songs like Shava Shava, Suraj Hua Madhham, Bole Chudiyan, and others, which became anthems of the early 2000s and perfectly depicted the film's story.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan is gearing up for the release of Kesari Chapter 2, which is produced under his banner along with Leo Media Collective and Cape of Good Films. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the historical courtroom drama movie features Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan in lead roles. Set against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Kesari Chapter 2 is set to release in theatres on April 18, 2025. The film will bring the life story of C Sankaran Nai who fought against the British Empire to uncover the truth of the horrific incident.
