Kalki 2898 AD, the Telugu-language epic science fiction film directed by Nag Ashwin, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani, draws inspiration from Hindu scriptures and serves as the inaugural installment in the Kalki Cinematic Universe. Since its announcement, Kalki has been generating excitement globally. As it becomes the top-grossing Indian and Telugu film of 2024, its time for Kalki 2.
Kalki 2 will focus on Yaskin, played by Kamal Haasan, as he embarks on a high-stakes mission. The sequel is projected to take three years to complete and will reportedly be divided into two parts. Some footage was already shot during the first film's production. Now, at the Moscow International Film Week, Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, shared exciting updates about the sequel to the mythological sci-fi franchise. According to News 18, Priyanka, who is Nag Ashwin's wife, revealed that filming for the second installment is set to begin in the next five to six months, likely starting in January or February 2025. She mentioned that more details would be available once production commences.
“The filming will start in the next five or six months (January or February 2025). Once it starts, we’ll be able to talk more about it,” Priyanka said. Adding, "We’ve only been chatting on the WhatsApp group, writing to each other, ‘Guys, we should celebrate (Kalki success).’ I think our celebration will be when we start the shoot of Kalki 2 because that’s when we will truly be able to celebrate the fact that our stress is finally over!"
The makers stated that they feel more confident about filming the sequel compared to the initial production of Kalki 2898 AD in 2021. "This time around, there’s a lot more excitement than nervousness. I think there will be a lot more planning now. Whatever we did for part one, we were all just going by Nag Ashwin’s vision. It often happens that you don’t understand most of the things until you actually see the visuals. Now that we’ve seen everything that Nagi has done and understood the way the audience has received it, we’re going on to part two with an altogether different energy," Swapna added.
