Kangana Ranaut's highly anticipated film, Emergency, has recently been granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), according to a report by India Today. This certification allows viewers of various age groups to watch the film with parental guidance. However, the film's release date has yet to be finalized.

The film, a biographical political thriller about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's 21-month emergency period from 1975 to 1977, faced delays due to issues with certification and criticism from Sikh organizations. The CBFC has required the filmmakers to make specific changes, including adding disclaimers about the historical events portrayed in the film and cutting certain scenes.

Originally scheduled to be released on September 6, the film's release was postponed as the makers awaited clearance from the censor board. Kangana Ranaut, who stars as Indira Gandhi and also directed and wrote the film, had earlier updated fans about the delay, noting the ongoing wait for certification.

Emergency features an ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik. The initial release date was set for November 24, 2023, but was delayed due to scheduling changes. The film has been met with controversy, particularly from Sikh groups who have objected to its portrayal of Sikh militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. This backlash contributed to the delay in the film’s certification and release.
