Kangana Ranaut has received a legal notice from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) ahead of her upcoming film Emergency’s release. On Tuesday, SGPC issued the notice to the film’s producers, including Kangana, demanding the removal of the trailer released earlier this month. SGPC Secretary Partap Singh voiced objections to the film, stating that letters were also sent to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, urging them to ban Emergency. He accused the actress of offending Sikh sentiments and claimed that the film's trailer revealed several 'anti-Sikh scenes.'
The notice, sent by Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali, SGPC’s legal advisor, demands that the film’s producers, including Kangana Ranaut, remove the trailer released on August 14 from all public and social media platforms. Additionally, they are required to issue a written apology to the Sikh community.
Following instructions from SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, a legal notice has been issued to the film's producers, including Kangana Ranaut, who is also a BJP MP from Mandi. He said that after the release of the film's trailer, many "anti-Sikh scenes had come to light, which deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community".

Last week, the GDPC and Akhal Takht called for an immediate ban on the film, alleging that it attempts to 'character assassinate' Sikhs by portraying them negatively. Dhami held a press conference to demand an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and voiced strong objections to the film. He urged for the inclusion of Sikh representatives on the censor board to ensure fair review.
Kangana Ranaut announced Emergency in 2021, clarifying that while it is a political drama, it is not a biopic of Indira Gandhi. In addition to starring in the lead role, Kangana is also directing the film. The cast includes Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade. Shreyas Talpade will portray Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while Anupam Kher will play Jayaprakash Narayan. The late actor Satish Kaushik will appear as Jagjivan Ram, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India.
