Kangana Ranaut Says She Had To ‘Mortgage’ Her House To Make Emergency; ‘No OTT Platform Was Ready To Purchase’

Kangana Ranaut, who is receiving overwhelming responses for her latest release Emergency, shared her struggles while making the film. The actress revealed that she suffered financial problems while making Emergency. She stated that no OTT platform was ready to purchase the political drama. Kangana even went on to say that she had to mortgage her house to make the film. She said that she does not have PR teams to promote herself and claimed that the people around her hired PRs to harm her image. 

In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Kangana said “Of course I had financial issues while making the film. A lot of people backed out. Nobody was buying it. No OTT platform was ready to purchase it. I had to mortgage my house to make the film. I did go through these issues but I didn’t have someone to go to and cry to.”

“I never had a PR team to promote myself. But people against me hired PRs to harm my image. They randomly put cases against me calling me psycho, chudail, stalker. They spoke so much bad about me. Nobody speaks about a woman like that,” she added. 

Emergency was released in theatres on January 17, 2025 after facing many delays. The political drama revolves around the political scenario that took place under the leadership of the first female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency Period (1975 to 1977). The movie stars Kangana Ranaut, Anupam Kher, Vishak Nair, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman and Shreyas Talpade in key roles. It was made on an overall budget of Rs 60 crore. As per the early trends, the movie earned over Rs 10 crore within 3 days of its release. Kangana has directed and written the film.
