Emergency On OTT: Kangana Ranaut's Hindi-language historical biographical drama film Emergency, which made its theatrical debut on January 17, 2025, ended up receiving a mixed response. After underperforming at the box office, the movie was released on an OTT platform, where it performed exceptionally well. Kangana's directorial debut has been garnering praise from both viewers and industry members. Recently, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta reviewed the film and admitted that he had prejudged it, but Kangana's direction and performance changed his perception. In response, the actress recently slammed the industry, stating that they shouldn’t have any preconceived notions about her.

Praising Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency, director Sanjay Gupta wrote on his X, "Today I watched EMERGENCY by @KanganaTeam. Very frankly, I wasn’t planning to, as I had prejudged it. I am so glad that I was wrong. What a fantastic film by Kangana—both performance and direction. Top Notch & World Class."

Addressing Sanjay Gupta's appreciation post, Kangana, in a conversation with India TV, said, "He admitted in the post that he had preconceived notions. Why are you trying to understand me when you are failing at it? And he is also admitting that he failed. To keep these negative preconceived notions about anyone, thinking only negatively about me, and trying and wishing that I would fail… how do you know what I would have done? Do you have the intellect needed to understand me? When you take a bird's eye view of a person, you need to have an expanded vision of that object or subject. How can you have an expanded vision of my intellect? What are your credentials? What kind of films do you make?"
Slamming the industry for their preconceived notions about her and her movies, she added, “I want people in the film industry, considering the kind of films they make, to not have any preconceived notions about me. If they don’t talk like ‘we know what she can do and what her limits are,’ then they won’t have to face so much insult.”

About Emergency Movie: The movie depicts the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, portrayed beautifully by Ranaut herself. The film is based on the Indian Emergency that was imposed in the country from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977. Written by Ranaut, with a screenplay by Ritesh Shah, she also donned the producer’s hat alongside Renu Pitti. Besides her, Emergency starred Anupam Kher, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhry, Satish Kaushik, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and others in pivotal roles. The movie is streaming on OTT giant Netflix.
