Mammootty’s recent release, ‘Kannur Squad’ is not minting numbers at the box office amid high expectations. The film minted Rs 13.25 Crore in Kerala four days after its release and hit theatres on September 28. The film garnered much acclaim for its screenplay and performances from the critics, however, the audience was not very appreciative of the film. ‘Kannur Squad’ marks the directorial debut of Roby Varghese Raj and also stars Kishore, Rony David Raj, Shabareesh Varma, and Azees Nedumangad.
Talking about the box office collection of the film, ‘Kannur Squad’ minted Rs 4.15 Crore on Day 5, taking the total box office collection of the film to be around Rs 16.80 Crore. On its opening day, the film earned Rs 2.2 Crore. ‘Kannur Squad’ is facing tough competition from ‘Chandramukhi 2’ starring Kangana Ranaut and Raghav Lawrence which has already entered the Rs 25 Crore club, and is inching closer towards the Rs 30 Crore mark.

‘Kannur Squad’ brought back childhood memories of Mammooty, as the film was shot around his college which falls in the Ernakulam district. The actor visited his college, met several fans during the shoot of the film, and also saw his name and details in the ‘Hall of Fame.’
Meanwhile, about his professional front, the actor will next be seen in ‘Kaathal: The Core’ alongside Jyothika, marking their first collaboration. The film will hit screens in April 2023. He will also start the shoot of ‘Bilal’ directed by Amal Neerad and also has Mahesh Narayanan’s social drama in the pipeline.
