During a recent event, Karan Johar opened up about his iconic film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G) and his thoughts on re-releasing it in theatres. The conversation took place at the trailer launch of his upcoming production, Bad Newz, which stars Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri and Ammy Virk.

The Bollywood industry has seen a wave of re-releases lately. Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar was re-released last month, drawing full houses. Similarly, Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya has received a positive response from audiences. This trend has sparked curiosity among fans about the potential re-release of other beloved films, particularly those produced by Dharma Productions, including K3G, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Addressing these speculations, as per News18, Karan Johar expressed his admiration for the re-release trend but also shared some disappointing news for fans eagerly waiting for his films to hit the big screen again.

“I was really excited with the films coming back. I was so happy when *Rockstar* was re-released and received so much love. I would see it on Instagram reels every day, and people were showering so much affection on this cult film,” Johar said.

He praised the phenomenon, highlighting how a whole generation has grown up watching these films and how re-releases provide a chance for new audiences to experience them.

However, Johar revealed that he has not watched K3G since its release 23 years ago. “I feel that when K3G completes 25 years, that’s when we should re-release the film. I watch my films only once properly when they’re ready. After that, I haven’t seen the film. When scenes or dialogues come up on reels, I watch them; otherwise, I haven’t watched it,” he shared.

Johar emphasized the importance of a significant milestone for the re-release, suggesting that it should coincide with a momentous occasion. “I would like to re-release it when there’s a momentous milestone. I hope that everybody else, whose films are special, like Zoya Akhtar's retrospectives or Rockstar, follow suit. We should constantly remind everybody that Hindi cinema rocks,” he concluded.
