Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26, remembering India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. Fought for over 60 days from May 3 to July 26 in 1999, the situation came to rise after the Pakistani Army illegally occupied the Indian land at the Line of Control in Kargil.
This year, the Kargil War marks the 24th anniversary and since then Bollywood too has been paying tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed for our nation. Inspired by the real-life events, let's take a look at some of the Bollywood films based on the Kargil War of 1999.
Shershaah
'Shershaah' featured Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in lead roles and speaks about the untold story of Captain Vikram Batra who passed away at the re-capturing point 4875 in Kargil from the Pakistani troops. The film also gives a peek into his personal relationship with his girlfriend Dimple Cheema, who waited for her man to return with never marrying anyone else again. The film is available on Amazon Prime Video.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl
Essayed by Janhvi Kapoor, the film is based on the real life of former Air Force Pilot Gunjan Saxena, who stood out to be the first Indian female Air Force pilot to fight a war. The film also features Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles and is available on Netflix.
Lakshya
This superhit Hrithik Roshan starrer follows the life of a confused and aimless boy who joins the army and is currently gearing up to fight the Kargil War. The film is directed by Farhan Akhtar and also features Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Om Puri in pivotal roles. One can watch the film on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

The film is keenly focused from the beginning to the end of the Kargil War and is directed by J.P. Dutta. The film had an ensemble cast and featured Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Ashutosh Rana, Saif Ali Khan, Raveena Tandon, Esha Deol, Mahima Chaudhary, and Rani Mukerji in pivotal roles. The film is available on YouTube.

Released in 2003, the film revolves around the events of Captain Anuj Nayyar, MVC of 17 Jat Regiment of the Indian Army, who was martyred in operations against Pakistani soldiers in the Kargil War. The story depicts the real life events of what happened to the lives of the Nayyar family. The film features Revathi, Om Puri, Gul Panag, and Sanjay Suri in lead roles.
