Kim Soo Hyun, known for his phenomenal performances in It’s Okay To Not Be Okay and Queen Of Tears has been dethroned as South Korea’s second-highest-paid actor. The reason? His recent dating controversy with actress Kim Sae Ron, has sparked backlash and severely impacted his market value. The actor has lost several valuable brand deals with the luxury brand Prada cutting ties with the South Korean star just months after appointing him as the global brand ambassador. Taking his place is none other than Wooga Squad member, Park Hyung Sik, as per a March 17 report by K-media N Entertainments.

Park Hyung Sik, who starred alongside Park Shin Hye in Doctor Slump (2023), now holds the coveted second spot. He earned an impressive 500 million KRW per episode for the 16-episode series, bringing his total earnings to a whopping 8 billion KRW. His upcoming revenge thriller Buried Hearts is rumoured to fetch him an even higher per-episode fee, solidifying his rise.

Kim Soo Hyun, on the other hand, reportedly received a lower 300 million KRW per episode for his latest drama, Queen of Tears, due to high production costs. Despite the initial buzz surrounding his upcoming Disney+ project, Knock Off, his involvement in the dating scandal dampened the excitement.

The surge in actors’ earnings is largely credited to the global success of Kdramas on streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. However, Kim Soo Hyun’s dip from the second spot — a position he once secured with One Ordinary Day — marks a significant shift in the rankings. Park Hyung Sik’s rise is even more noteworthy given his status as a member of the iconic Wooga Squad, alongside fellow stars Park Seo Joon, Choi Woo Shik, BTS’ V (Kim Taehyung) and singer Peakboy.
