The current festive season has unfortunately overlapped with a period of widespread national outrage and protests, as people from all corners of the country are demanding justice for the late Dr. Moumita, a victim of a brutal crime that shook the nation to its core. The horrific incident, which involved the rape and murder of the young doctor, occurred on August 9 at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Amid the nationwide protests, several celebrities have taken to their social media platforms and expressed their anger towards the lack of safety of women. Recently, Samantha Ruth Prabhu talked about women’s safety and asked for a ‘change’.

Samantha said at the World Pickleball event, “I think that it is the need of the hour. We're all looking for some change because it is the need of the hour. I hope that change comes really soon."
On Monday, actor Arjun Kapoor marked Raksha Bandhan by sharing a poignant video, highlighting the urgency of addressing women's safety in light of the Kolkata case, and urged men to acknowledge their role in the conversation and take responsibility. He said in the clip, “While we see so much anguish and so much lack of basic understanding and education amongst a lot of the men, when we celebrate Rakhi, we speak about being a brother, taking care of.”
He further added, “Why aren’t we taught how to make the environment safe enough for all our sisters to roam around without needing a brother? All the time to protect and take care physically to be around. Yes, I know the visual is something we got used to that the brother is protective or the man is protective but I think somewhere we need to teach other men that they need to make women feel safe rather than teach men to protect women.”
