Kunaal Roy Kapur Reveals Why He Ruined Aditya Roy Kapur’s Suit In Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: 'Never Shared Screen Space...'

Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to be a fan-favourite even after more than a decade. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, and Aditya Roy Kapur, the film remains special for its unforgettable moments and strong friendships. Among these, Kunaal Roy Kapur’s cameo as Taran, opposite his real-life brother Aditya Roy Kapur, is one scene fans still remember—especially the part where he ruins Aditya’s suit.

In a recent conversation with Filmygyan, Kunaal Roy Kapur addressed a fan’s question: “Aditya bhai ka suit kyun kharab kiya?” The actor revealed that many viewers don’t even realize that he and Aditya are brothers in real life. Since Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was the only film where they shared screen space, Kunaal saw it as the perfect opportunity to have some fun.

The scene in question takes place when Taran, played by Kunaal, jumps into a pool to retrieve his wedding ring. When he spots Aditya Roy Kapur’s character, Avi, he excitedly hugs him, soaking his suit in the process. “We have never shared screen space before or after this. So, that was the perfect occasion to spoil his suit,” Kunaal said.

The film recently returned to theatres to celebrate its 11th anniversary, and the response from audiences showed just how much it is still loved. From its dialogues to its music, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani remains iconic and every rewatch brings back nostalgia.

In another interview with India Today, Kunaal also reflected on the unexpected social media love his character, Taran, has received over the years. However, he humbly credited the film’s writer and director for making the character so likeable.
