L2 Empuraan Controversy: L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is doing well at the box office, but Malayalam movie has generated headlines for potraying the purported Gujarat riots in bad light. 

L2 Empuraan stirred controversy for purportedly depicting right-wing ideology as 'villainous.' According to a recent report, the makers of the Malayalm movie have chosen to make 17 cuts in the light of the ongoing issue. A few of its lines will be muted in addition to picking a new name for the villain, Baba Bajrangi.

L2: Empuraan actors Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran have received support from the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA)amid the ongoing controversy. It slammed threats and personal attacks to the actors of the movie. 

A part of the statement read, "We welcome criticism of the film’s form and content without any compromises. Only through constructive criticism can an art form truly evolve. However, we firmly believe that criticism should not descend into personal attacks, threats, or branding, regardless of political or religious affiliations."

Kerala Film Body further added, "We stand in solidarity with all the film professionals who worked on Empuraan."

Meanwhile, Mohanlal apologised for the criticism surrounding his movie, in a recent Facebook post. The now viral post stated that it was his responsibility to make sure that none of his films depicted animosity toward any 'political movement, ideology, or religious group.'

Prithviraj Sukumaran directed and Murali Gopy wrote the action thriller, which is the second installment of the Lucifer trilogy. L2: Empuraan stars Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Andrea Tivadar, Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebouaney and Suraj Venjaramoodu. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the Malayalam movie.

L2: Empuraan is having a fantastic run at the box office; within its first weekend, it had made Rs 174 crore globally.
