Maharaj actress Shalini Pandey opened up about being body shammed in the film industry. She revealed that her managers took advantage of her during the initial days of her career. The actress further shared that she ran away from home to pursue her acting career. Her father didn’t approve of her decision to act so she moved out of her house.
In an interview with India Today, Shalini said “I was really body-shamed back then. Also, since I was new and down South, I didn’t understand the language, and my managers at the time just took advantage of my naivety and made me do things. I was constantly trying to understand what people wanted from me.” She further added that she was always body-shamed as she had an athletic body. “Even now, I get shamed by people,” she said.
She continued, “My papa wanted me to do engineering. I even tried it, but I wasn’t able to do it. And my papa just wouldn’t agree to let me try acting.” Shalini revealed that she tried to convince her father for four years and eventually decided to run away from home. She said, “Now it seems like a joke but at that time it was very difficult. So I ran away.”
Earlier, Shalini said at an event, “Thankfully, my parents are really proud of me now, because of Yash Raj, because now they feel I am doing credible work. Because all of us, my parents, grew up watching Yash Raj's films.”
