Maharaja Box Office Collection (China): Vijay Sethupathi starred in Nithilan Swaminathan's Tamil action thriller Maharaja, which debuted in Chinese theaters in November of last year. According to a Chinese embassy official, the movie has become the highest-grossing Indian picture in China in five years and is almost ready to join the Rs 100 crore club in just over a month.
The Chinese Embassy's spokesman in India, Yu Jing, shared a significant update on the box office performance of Maharaja in China on her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday. Alongside the poster of the movie, she wrote, "Maharaja has become the highest-grossing Indian film in China since 2018, reaching Rs 91.55 crore. Well done," along with two thumbs up emojis.

The movie Maharaja is now the 10th highest-grossing Indian picture at the Chinese box office, in addition to being the highest-grossing South Indian film. Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, holds the top rank with a lifetime total of 1305.29 crore. In addition to Maharaja, Secret Superstar, Andhadhun, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hindi Medium, Hichki, PK, Mom, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha are among the other films that hold the top ranks.
The Vijay Sethupathi movie made about RMB 13.37 million (Rs 15.6 crore) at the Chinese box office, according to movie ticket sales website Maoyan on its first day in November 2024.

Maharaja became the first Indian film to be released in China following the October 2024 agreement to normalise relations between the two nations, which put an end to the impasse in eastern Ladakh.
