Malayalam actor Bala, also known as Balakumar, was arrested following a complaint filed by his ex-wife, singer Amrutha Suresh. The arrest, carried out by the Kadavanthra police in Ernakulam, Kerala, involved charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and violations under juvenile justice laws.
According to a report by Manorama, Bala's ex-wife, Amrutha accused him of misbehaving with her and emotionally harming their daughter, Avantika, who is now 12 years old. Bala’s former driver, who had worked for him for three years, supported the allegations, revealing that he had witnessed multiple instances of Bala assaulting Amrutha. The driver shared his account on social media, stating that Amrutha had visible scars and required treatment due to the mistreatment.
Amid these accusations, a video posted by Avantika further intensified the matter. In the video, she claimed that Bala had misbehaved with both her and her mother. In response, Bala released his video, stating that if Avantika did not want to meet him, he would no longer attempt to maintain contact with her.

This arrest has drawn significant attention, especially due to Bala’s stature as a third-generation member of the Malayalam film industry. His grandfather owned the renowned Arunachala Studios, his father directed over 350 films and documentaries, and his brother, Siva, is a filmmaker and cinematographer. Bala, who began his acting career in the 2002 Telugu film 2 Much, later transitioned to Tamil cinema in 2003 with Anbu. However, he found the most recognition in Malayalam films, debuting in 2006 with Kalabham. His most recent film, Bad Boyz, an action-comedy directed by Omar Lulu, was released earlier this year.
Both Bala and his manager were arrested at his Kochi flat following Amrutha's complaint. She also alleged that Bala had insulted her publicly through social media posts and used videos to emotionally harm their daughter.
