Marco TV Premiere: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has rejected the satellite rights for Unni Mukundan’s Malayalam movie due to its violent content and stated that it is not suitable content for a family audience. The Regional Officer of CBFC Nadeem Thufali T has written to CBFC chairperson for the Centre's intervention to remove Unni Mukundan’s Malayalam movie on OTT as well. The neo-noir action thriller film is currently streaming on SonyLIV and Aha.
In an interview with Manorama News, Nadeem Thufali T said “Marco has already been certified A by the CBFC. Parents should exercise caution when allowing children to watch such films. The CBFC’s role is limited to certification and does not involve censorship. We have rejected the satellite rights for the movie Marco as it's not suitable for a family audience.”
On the other hand, Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, recently shared his thoughts on how violent movies and shows are affecting young minds. He linked it with an example of the tragic death of a student in a violent altercation in Kozhikode. In an Assembly speech on March 3, CM warned that films and serials such as Avesham, which was linked to various violent incidents, could impact in glorifying violence and influence young minds.
While promoting his film Parivar, Jagadish was asked on this matter. He said, “Lage Raho Munna Bhai asked people to accept Gandhism; how many did it? So, are we saying people are influenced only by evil, not good? And what about the actors? So, does the audience prefer Tony Issac or Jagadish? If you like Jagadish, Jagadish has never spoken in support of violence. I spread love when I visit schools and colleges. So, if the audience accepts the message by Tony Issac but not Jagadish, then it really is a matter for debate.”
