Margot Robbie is set to star alongside Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi in Emerald Fennell's upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. The Australian actress, known for her roles in Barbie and The Wolf of Wall Street, will portray Catherine Earnshaw, while Elordi will take on the role of Heathcliff. The film is still in the pre-production stage, with plans for a UK shoot in 2025. Produced by Fennell's LuckyChap Entertainment, the film marks her third collaboration with the production company.
Despite the excitement surrounding the project, the casting of Robbie and Elordi has sparked criticism from film and book critics alike. Many have questioned the choice of a 34-year-old Robbie to play Catherine, a teenager in the novel, while others noted that Heathcliff, described as "dark-skinned" in the original text, will be portrayed by Elordi, who is of European descent.

Collider's editor Maggie Boccella criticised the film's approach, arguing that Fennell seemed more focused on creating a "tortured lovers drama" rather than staying true to the novel’s complex themes. Meanwhile, TV and film critic Gavia Baker-Whitelaw added sarcastically that the duo "look like they belong on Instagram," referring to their polished appearances in contrast to the raw and rugged nature of Brontë's characters.
HAVE A LOOK:
just a not so friendly reminder: Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights is explicitly dark skin and Romani, and his experiences as a man of color influence his entire character and story as a man suffering racist abuse from his adoptive family

fuck off emerald fennell
the interesting thing about wuthering heights is the text itself with all its literary tools, not the story, which is why any adaptation to film is inherently doomed to fail pic.twitter.com/bkOtQS91kZ

no hate to margot robbie and jacob elordi but neither of them have enough Psychologically Tortured vibes to play cathy and heathcliff. like a wuthering heights adaptation simply needs actors who are weirder
