The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to introduce one of its most intriguing villains yet. A newly released video from Marvel Studios offers a first look at Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, better known as ‘The Leader,’ ahead of the release of Captain America: Brave New World. While the teaser keeps the full reveal under wraps, it hints at a striking transformation for the character, sparking anticipation among fans.

Tim Blake Nelson’s character, Samuel Sterns, was last seen in The Incredible Hulk (2008), where he was exposed to gamma radiation. This exposure granted him super-intelligence, setting the stage for his evolution into The Leader, one of the most formidable villains in Marvel Comics. In the comics, the character is known for his enlarged cranium, symbolizing his unparalleled intellect. While the teaser does not confirm a fully comic-accurate design, it strongly suggests that Nelson’s version of The Leader will undergo a significant visual transformation.

Anthony Mackie returns as Sam Wilson, fully embracing his role as Captain America. The story follows Sam as he navigates a web of international conspiracies, beginning with a meeting with the newly elected U.S. President, Thaddeus Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford in his MCU debut. As tensions rise, a global threat emerges, with a shadowy mastermind orchestrating a dangerous plot. Given his intelligence and strategic mind, Sterns could very well be the villain behind the chaos.

Beyond Mackie and Ford, Brave New World features an impressive ensemble, including:

Danny Ramirez as Falcon

Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley

Liv Tyler as Betty Ross

Shira Haas as Sabra

Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder

Rosa Salazar and Xosha Roquemore in undisclosed roles

Directed by Julius Onah, the film is backed by powerhouse producers Kevin Feige, Nate Moore, Malcolm Spellman, and The Russo Brothers, who previously delivered blockbuster hits like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame. The film is set to hit theaters on February 14, releasing in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
