Matka Box Office Collection Day 1: Varun Tej’s highly anticipated film Matka hit theatres on November 14, 2024, but it didn’t bring the comeback success the actor and his fans hoped for. Matka has failed to attract audiences and witnessed a slow start at the box office, sparking disappointment across the industry.

As per a Sacnilk.com report, on its opening day, Matka managed to collect only around Rs 0.71 crore in India net revenue. This lacklustre response is evident in the low occupancy rates recorded in Telugu theatres. On Thursday, the overall occupancy for Matka was just 15.71%, with morning shows at 15.59%, afternoon at 14.80%, evening at 15.03% and night shows slightly higher at 17.41%. These modest numbers indicate that Matka has struggled to establish a strong foothold, despite its extensive pre-release promotions.

Given this underwhelming start, Matka is projected to be an outright box office disaster, adding another blow to Varun Tej's recent string of underperforming films. Industry insiders speculate that the movie may yield less than Rs 1 crore in distributor shares by the end of its theatrical run, which is significantly below expectations for a film with such a high budget. For Varun Tej, this setback signals a substantial career low, raising questions about his choice of projects and the financial risks taken by the production team.

Matka Movie Budget:

Produced by Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Talluri under Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainments, the movie has reportedly a production budget exceeding Rs 35 crore, inclusive of promotion costs.

Matka On OTT:

Following its theatrical release, Matka will premiere on Prime Video, which has acquired the film’s digital rights. Given the current box office performance, the OTT release might be moved up to recoup losses and reach a wider audience through streaming.
