Mersal On OTT: The Tamil action thriller Mersal, directed by Atlee and starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, originally released in theaters in 2017 and became a blockbuster, ranking as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films at the time. Thanks to Vijay's power-packed performance, the movie earned over Rs 250 crore worldwide. Nearly 8 years later, the makers are set to re-release it in theaters across Tamil Nadu in March this year. About Mersal Movie
Mersal is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language period-action thriller film starring Vijay in triple roles, alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Kajal Agarwal, S. J. Suryah, and Nithya Menen in pivotal roles.
A series of kidnappings involving medical staff occur in Chennai and the police arrest a doctor, Maaran (played by Vijay), believing he is responsible for the crimes. During the investigation, the police discover that it was not Maaran, but his lookalike, Vetri, a magician, who committed the murders. Vetri is on a mission of revenge and aims to expose corrupt doctors. He seeks vengeance after learning that Daniel Arokiaraj (S. J. Surya) performed an unnecessary C-section on his mother, causing her death. To cover up the actions, he killed his father, Vetrimaaran, after he confronted him. Maaran joins Vetri in this mission, and the two estranged brothers work together to bring justice to the medical field. The film depicts Maaran taking charge of the Indian Medical Council, while Vetri continues to fight for justice against medical corruption.
Directed by Atlee, Mersal's screenplay was written by V. Vijayendra Prasad and S. Ramana Girivasan. The film was produced by N. Ramasamy, Hema Rukmani, and N. Murali, with music composed by A. R. Rahman.
