About Kaantha Movie

Set in 1950s Madras, Kaantha follows the evolving relationship between Chandran (Dulquer Salmaan), an actor rising to fame, and Ayya (Samuthirakani), the filmmaker who mentors him. Their bond begins with admiration but turns bitter as fame and ego start to interfere. Chandran’s decision to rename Ayya’s women-centric film Shaantha to Kaantha becomes the centre of their conflict, leading to emotional and physical confrontations. The film is backed by a strong technical team, including cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, art director Ramalingam and music composer Jhanu Chanthar. Jakes Bejoy, who worked on the background score, praised director Selvamani Selvaraj’s vision, calling the film a showcase of career-best performances from the cast.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Journey

Dulquer Salmaan continues to cement his position as one of India’s most versatile actors. Known for acclaimed performances in Sita Ramam, Charlie, Kurup, Kali and more, he once again draws praise for his intense and layered portrayal in Kaantha. The actor, who is the son of Malayalam superstar Mammootty, has built a strong pan-India presence through films across multiple languages. Alongside Rana Daggubati, he has also produced the film, adding to his growing reputation as a producer. After Kaantha, Dulquer is expected to appear in the sequel to his recent hit Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
