Mothers' Instinct: A Psychological Battle of Wills
Set in the early 1960s, Mothers' Instinct unravels the lives of best friends and neighbors Alice (Jessica Chastain) and Celine (Anne Hathaway) when a tragic accident shatters their peaceful existence. After one of their sons dies while under Alice’s care, Celine blames her, sparking a tense psychological conflict. As Celine becomes fixated on safeguarding her remaining child, Alice falls into a spiral of paranoia, dreading Celine's retribution.
In his directorial debut, former cinematographer Benoît Delhomme delves into themes of guilt, suspicion, and the darker aspects of maternal instinct. Adapted from Barbara Abel's novel, the film explores how a once-perfect friendship can be irrevocably altered by disaster. With intense performances from Chastain and Hathaway, reuniting for the first time since Interstellar, Mothers' Instinct promises a slow-burning thriller full of unexpected twists.
