About Munjya

Inspired by a popular legend from Maharashtra, Munjya brings a captivating folklore tale to the big screen. This horror-comedy draws from the rich cultural heritage of the Konkan coast, introducing a character deeply rooted in local myths. Set in 1952, the film tells the story of a forbidden love between a young Brahmin boy and Munni, which faces strong disapproval from his family. The narrative takes a tragic turn during a dangerous jungle ritual, resulting in the boy's untimely death and his burial under a haunted tree, setting the stage for the ensuing spine-chilling events.

Written by Yogesh Chandekar, 'Munjya' takes audiences on a gripping journey through love, loss, and horror, transcending traditional genre boundaries. Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, the film stands out as a unique gem in the genre-bending landscape of cinema.

Known for their work in films like Kalki and Fighter, Prime Focus Group has once again taken audiences to a different world with their mastery of VFX in Munjya. It took more than a year to create the eerie and mischievous protagonist from scratch using cutting-edge computer-generated imagery (CGI) for Munjya.
