Munna Bhai 3 Update: The franchise created by director Rajkumar Hirani, released in 2003, stars Sanjay Dutt as Munna Bhai, a kind-hearted gangster who enrolls in a medical college to fulfill his father's dream. The film combines humour and emotional depth, exploring themes of friendship, love, and the importance of compassion in medicine. Its success led to a sequel, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, released in 2006, where Munna Bhai and his sidekick, Circuit, played by Arshad Warsi, use Gandhian principles to solve social issues. Now, after the massive success, Rajkumar Hirani suggested that a third installment in the beloved franchise may be in the works.
The director shared that he is currently juggling multiple projects related to Munna Bhai, mentioning that he has five half-finished scripts. He explained that he spent six months on one script, but it stalled at the interval. He highlighted the main challenge of crafting another Munna Bhai story, emphasising that the next installment must surpass the previous films. "I have five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai. I spent six months on a script, reach the interval, and it just wouldn’t go beyond that. There is a Munna Bhai LLB, Munna Bhai Chal Base, Munna Bhai Chale Amreeka, and more."
"The most important factor is that the next instalment has to get better than the previous films. But now, I have a unique idea. Of course, over the course of 100 years of cinema, everything has been said. But yeah, I am working on that idea," the director added.
Hirani added a touch of humour while discussing the pressure to create the third Munna Bhai movie, joking that Sanjay Dutt might come to his home and insist on getting the project done, as he is eager to make another film in the franchise. He later affirmed that he is 'seriously' contemplating moving forward with the next installment of Munna Bhai.
The Munna Bhai franchise is regarded as one of the most iconic series in Indian cinema, skillfully combining humour, social commentaryand touching storytelling. This film not only reinforced the franchise's popularity but also sparked a cultural phenomenon around the character and its messages. Fans have long anticipated a third installment, with Hirani teasing several potential scripts over the years.
